On the road in Asia: safronbolu

No computer here and a fairly uneventful day, so this will be short. Went for an early morning walk around the mosques which was great as not a soul was about on the normally packed streets. 8 am departure on our tour bus for a private university west of Istanbul for a lecture on ottoman literature by a Korean American scholar–go figure…. Then a 4 hour bus ride turned into 8 as we had to make a huge detour around the entire city twice due to accidents, hwy construction and traffic. Istanbul is growing at an alarming rate and it looks more like Malaysia or Beijing china with all the building–condos, shopping malls, office skyscraper in every part of this megapolis of 12 million. The old city is small and manageable, but once outside–yikes!! Thank God we have finally arrived in the all hill town of safronbolu.
