Whether you are new to art making or itching to get back to a practice long neglected, adult art classes at Denver School of the Arts offer fun, no-stress play with a variety of materials and techniques. All levels are welcome. Students must be at least 18 years of age.
Beginning Drawing in a Sketchbook: 5 weeks, Tuesdays, 6 – 8:00 p.m., October 23, 30, Nov. 6, 13, 27 (no class Nov. 20); We’ll use the sketchbook as an idea generator, personal textbook, and playground. We’ll explore a variety of drawing, and collage techniques using creativity prompts to explore this most basic of artist tools. You can complete a full sketchbook in this class with a bit of outside work. Please bring a spiral or bound sketchbook (no larger than 9 x 12 and no smaller than 7 x 7) to the class.
Introduction to Watercolor: 4 weeks, Wednesdays, 6 – 8:30 p.m., October 24, November 14, 28, December 5 (no class Oct. 31, Nov. 7 or 22); Watercolor techniques, Basic color mixing, Use of the brush as an applicator, blender, sponge and mop, Idea Generators and Artist Block, Survey of watercolor artists; Realism, Expressionism, and Abstract Art. Instructor will provide brushes, paints, pencils and erasers to use during class. You may want a simple watercolor set to use outside of class. Please bring a watercolor pad at least 9 x 12 to the first class or purchase single watercolor sheets that we can cut into smaller pieces. Good quality watercolor paper (at least 140 pound weight) will allow you to fully explore the possibilities of this medium.
Printmaking Sampler*: 5 weeks, Thursdays, 6 – 8 p.m., Oct. 25, Nov. 1, 15, 29, Dec. 6 (no class Nov. 8 or 22), Tuition $120. Learn three basic print forms/techniques including relief, intaglio, and screen-printing in this accessible, introductory class.Students will create small sample prints in each of the techniques. These are great used as holiday or greeting cards or framed as gifts.Students with some printmaking experience will be able to develop their skills. All materials provided except paper and we’ll discuss options at the first meeting. This class is also offered at the Art Students League of Denver, Friday mornings November 30 – Dec. 21.
